Dean started performing in High School in 1968 and minored in Theater Arts in college, performing in college plays and for Fresno Community Theater. He met his wife, Anne during a production of The Fantasticks in San Luis Obispo, in which he played one of the fathers, a role he played two more times for different theaters.
After a brief hiatus, due to work obligations, Dean auditioned and got cast in a show in 1989 in Antioch, Ca., and continued performing for various community and regional theaters throughout the Bay Area from 1989-2012 when he and wife, Anne moved to Trilogy. By that time Dean had performed in over 70 comedies, dramas (his favorite genre) and musicals and had directed three plays for Pittsburg Community Theater.
Some of his favorite roles included Mr. Manningham (Angel Street), C.S. Lewis (Shadowlands) Oscar (The Odd Couple), Alfred P. Doolittle (My Fair Lady) Mr. McAfee (Bye Bye Birdie) and Big Daddy (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof). He enjoyed getting back on the stage for TTG’s productions of 12 Angry Jurors in 2014 and All My sons in 2016, his swan song.
